Dr Jaya Bhattacharya
Consultant Gynaecologist and IVF Specialist

Dr Jayashree Bhattacharya has spent more than 20 years working in the United Kingdom as a Senior Consultant Gynaecologist at the Bourn Hall Clinic and as an Honorary Lecturer for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Cambridge University. In 1990, she brought her wealth of knowledge back to India, setting up the first IVF Center in Eastern India at the Institute of Reproductive Medicine in Kolkata. Her commitment to expanding access to fertility care led to the launch of the first unit of AHIIRC in Ranchi, Jharkhand, in 1998.

 

For more than four decades, Dr. Jayashree Bhattacharya has been a trailblazer in reproductive medicine. With over 20 years of experience in the United Kingdom, including senior roles at the prestigious Bourn Hall Clinic and as an Honorary Lecturer at Cambridge University, Dr. Bhattacharya has been at the forefront of reproductive healthcare.

Dr Bhattacharya specialises in caring for women with high-risk pregnancies and performs procedures like Intra Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI), In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF), and Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) at her centre. With over ten years of experience in obstetrics and gynaecology, she is an expert in her field.

Dr Bhattacharya is highly regarded as the best infertility specialist in Jharkhand, with nearly five decades of experience and numerous awards to her name. She obtained her MBBS and MD degrees from the University of Ranchi in 1970 and 1972, respectively. Her areas of expertise include IVF, IUI, ICSI, embryo transfer, infertility evaluation, and the management of gynaecological issues and high-risk pregnancies. Her first successful IVF procedure, performed in collaboration with Dr. Patrick Steptoe and Sir Robert Edwards, took place in 1979. 

She also spent more than two years working in Britain as a Senior Consultant Gynaecologist at the Bourn Hall Clinic and as an Honorary Lecturer for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Cambridge University. Additionally, she has been a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists in London since 1979. With her extensive knowledge in infertility treatments, she conducted her first successful IVF procedure in 1978. After returning from the UK, she established the first IVF Center in Eastern India in 1990 at the Institute of Reproductive Medicine in Kolkata and initiated the first unit of AHIIRC in 1998 in Ranchi, Jharkhand.
